Saturday Morning. Leonard Koscianski, 42″x26″, oil on canvas, 2018.
Saturday Morning is a medium size painting, done in oil on linen canvas. It is Postmodern Art and is surreal in style. It combines painting types from the past and re-creates them as Contemporary Art. Bird Art ala Audubon is combined with Sports Art, and American primitive painting to make a visual statement about Contemporary life.
The large blue jay with its nest full of eggs against the manicured rhythmic landscape with its golfers is a jarring juxtaposition that is unsettling. What should be a placid scene is almost threatening. The painting is not “realistic” rather it is dreamlike and surreal. A tiny white golf ball, sailing through the air is in the very center of the painting. The materials are all natural, and the bristle and sable brushes used are completely organic. This painting is very different from the much earlier “Wild Dogs” in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This painting can be seen at the J Willott Gallery in Palm Desert, California.
