Waterfall. Leonard Koscianski, 5″x7″, tempera on panel, 2012.
Waterfall is a very small painting in tempera on panel. It features a Blue and Gold Macaw on a branch in a tropical forest. A waterfall pours into a river that flows to the foreground. The scene is imaginary. The foliage creates flowing rhythyms that echo the flow of the water, and create a green halo around the head of the bird. The foreground leaves resemble cannabis plants, which have been in the news of late. The feathers of the bird, though imaginary, are carefully detailed, as is the waterfall as it flows around dark rocks.
